Students in colleges and universities who work as teachers' research assistants may face hazardous disasters during their internships or carrying out experiments. As a result, the Ministry of Education recently invited the Ministry of Labor and representatives to discuss regarding the Guidance to Rights Protection of Subsidy Students at Junior Colleges and Institutions for Higher Education. In addition to the existing student group insurance, every college should extend its coverage with an additional business insurance for subsidy students in order to provide the occupational disaster compensation under the Labor Standards Act.
Central Police University faculties who carry out research projects may need to hire students as research assistants. To ensure every unit can employ students by the regulation and guarantee the rights of research subsidy students and part-time assistants, CPU lays down Directions on Right Protection of Research Subsidy Students and Part-time Assistants of Central Police University accordingly. The term of study-based part-time assistant is changed to the research subsidy student. The employed research assistant must be covered by an additional business insurance. The directions are announced on April 30, 2020, and effective from the date of the announcement. By October 5, 2020, a total of 18 research subsidy students had applied the above-mentioned directions and completed the process of business insurance coverage.
Under the original system, there is no other protection for students who work as "study-based part-time assistant" except for student group insurance. As Directions on Right Protection of Research Subsidy Students and Part-time Assistants of Central Police University took effect, the term of the study-based part-time assistant would no longer be used but changed to research subsidy students in the future. The directions clearly define the study scope of research subsidy students, extend their insurance coverage by adding business insurance, standardize the quality of part-time assistant, and protect the employed personnel who participate in research projects.
